Blood Substitutes

The development of a product suitable to replace blood volume and transport oxygen in patients, who have suffered trauma and major blood losses, as an alternative to blood transfusions, has been the focus of this research area since its beginning in 1995. The Blood Substitutes Group works in the formulation, preparation, characterization and in vitro and in vivo evaluation of substances that replace blood functions in disease states, maintaining intravascular volume and oxygen perfusion to tissues.
