La tecnología de bioimpresión para desarrollar estructuras 3D que imitan tejidos es una herramienta fundamental para responder a preguntas de investigación tanto básicas como aplicadas en áreas como la ingeniería de tejidos y la búsqueda de moléculas farmacológicas. En esta línea de investigación, trabajamos de manera multidisciplinaria, abordando desde el desarrollo de biotintas como insumos para bioimpresión y la creación de modelos de tejidos específicos, como piel, epitelio pigmentario (para estudiar la degeneración macular), epitelio cervical, modelo neuroinmune de la enfermedad de Parkinson y sistemas 3D para la expansión de progenitores hematopoyéticos, hasta la evaluación de compuestos farmacológicos, dispositivos médicos y cosméticos.

Además, utilizamos plataformas adicionales de cultivo celular 2D y 3D, acreditadas bajo la norma ISO/IEC 17025:2017, específicamente ISO 10993-5:2009 para ensayos de citotoxicidad, lo que garantiza altos estándares de precisión y confiabilidad en nuestras evaluaciones.

Otro de los objetivos de la línea de investigación es la búsqueda de nuevos compuestos farmacológicos a partir de fuentes naturales de la biodiversidad colombiana como de las bases de datos utilizando herramientas de inteligencia artificial.

Proyectos en Bioimpresión

El enfoque principal de esta línea de investigación es la de diseñar y desarrollar hidrogeles naturales, principalmente a base de matriz extracelular (ECM) de diferentes tejidos porcinos como submucosa intestinal, piel y placenta. Trabajamos principalmente en las características fisicoquímicas (imprimibilidad y fidelidad) y de biocompatibilidad de estos hidrogeles/biotintas como insumo básico de la tecnología de bioimpresión 3D por extrusión (BIOX-Cellink) y para el desarrollo de diferentes modelos de tejidos. Actualmente en nuestro grupo hemos y utilizando nuestros hidrogeles para desarrollar el modelo de piel, modelo de epitelio pigmentario, modelo cervical, modelo neuroimmune, modelo de expansión de células progenitoras hematopoyéticas.
